Search Engine Optimisation

In simple terms SEO is the process of improving your website to increase its visibility on search engines like Google or Microsoft Bing.Higher ranked websites will appear at the top as a search result. In this blog I’ll be giving you 10 ways you can boost you websites ranking.   1. Fast Website Loading Speed A study by Neil Patel shows pages that rank at the top of Google’s first page tend to load faster than the ones on the bottom of page 1.    2. Improve Dwell Time If people leave your page quickly, Google will assume that people don’t like your page. This causes them to rank it lowly. One way to prevent people from leaving your page quickly is embedding videos on your page. Pages with video have an 11.2% better bounce rate than those without a video (Dean, 2023).   3. On Page SEO You could also optimise your website’s title tags, meta descriptions and header tags to include your target keywords naturally.    4. Mobile Optimisation  Google considers ...

It's All About Engagement

Creating an engaging blog requires a combination of good writing and thoughtful content. It might seem like a daunting task but writing an engaging blog post is actually easier than you may think. Here are four of my tips: 1.       Create Compelling Headlines: It’s important to create compelling headlines that arouse readers’ curiosity and give them a reason to click on your blog post. This can be achieved by using trigger words. Trigger words or phrases that compel the reader to take action and in this case the action would be clicking the bog post to read it.   2.       Use Bulleted/Numbered Lists: More people skim through blog posts and look to only read the most interesting parts. The most effective way to engage with readers and encourage them to read through your bog is by using bullet points or numbered lists. This helps break the text. When using bullet points remember to keep the text concise and to be enga...

The Problem with Big Data

Big data is highly important in today’s digital economy that’s very data driven. Its significance continues to grow and unfortunately so do the ethical issues attached to it. In today’s blog we’ll take a closer look into big data and the ethical and social problems attached to it.   Big data refers to large, diverse sets of information that grows at ever-increasing rates. Big data often comes from data mining and arrives in multiple formats. The main concept of big data is that the more visibility you have into anything, the more effectively you can gain insights to make better decisions, uncover growth opportunities and improve your business model. It’s mainly used to: Track consumer behaviour and shopping habits to deliver personalised product recommendations. Detect fraud in real time. Using image data from cameras and sensors, as well as GPS data, to detect potholes and improve road maintenance in cities.   Ethical and social concerns: Discrimination: Algo...

I Completed 3 Trailhead Courses so You Don't Have To.

Salesforce is a cloud-based software company that provides customer relationship management (CRM). I took three of their Trailhead courses which are centred around learning how to use their various products. Get to Know Salesforce This course was about how businesses can improve customer relationships using Salesforce. The first thing I learned is that customer expectations are increasing more than ever, and customers now expect a unified experience from a business not just deliverance of a product or service. They also have a system called the ‘Customer 360 Platform’, a software development that allows users to build with little or no coding. This ensures that businesses are keeping up with technological advancements with their current skill sets. This allows them to constantly innovate on their methods of improving customer relationships. I think this course is valuable to those who are mostly looking to set up a business.   Discover CRM Analytics CRM Analytics i...

ERP System Success Stories

An enterprise application (EA) is a computer software used to satisfy the needs of an organisation by integrating the computer systems that run all phases of an organisation’s operations. Organisations that use EAs are businesses, schools, charities and governments. There are various EAs, in this blog we’ll be focusing on ERP systems. “Think about all the core business processes needed to run a company: finance, HR, manufacturing, supply chain, services, procurement, and others. At its most basic level, ERP systems helps to efficiently manage all these processes in an integrated system” (SAP, 2023). Why Companies Fail to Implement Information Systems

Companies have often struggled with Information Systems Implementation for many reasons, and these challenges can vary depending on the size of the information system , industry and specific requirements an organisation might demand from the information system.  Here are some of the issues companies encounter when attempting to implement Information Systems:   Incompatibility with Existing Systems  Companies may struggle to integrate new systems with existing ones. Many information systems involve complex software and hardware configurations that can be difficult to work with. For example, a company implementing an enterprise resource planning system may face difficulties integrating it with legacy systems. This complexity can lead to technical glitches and delays. Resistance to Change Employees can resist new information systems due to fear of losing their jobs, discomfort with technology or reluctance to change established work processes that they’re used to.  Appl...

10 Reasons Why Multinational Companies Choose Ireland as Their Home

Over 1,700 multinational companies call Ireland home. In this blog we’ll discuss 10 reasons why multinational companies are attracted to the small island.   1. European Union Membership Multinational companies that expand to Ireland, immediately gain access to the European market which is one of the biggest markets for global consumers. In an Economist Intelligence Unit report, 46% of respondents highlighted "access to EU markets", as the most competitive advantage of doing business in Ireland.   2. English-Speaking Country After Brexit, Ireland became the official English-speaking country in the EU whose native language is also English.   This irradicates the issue of there being a language barrier especially for US companies.    3. Lower Corporate Tax Rate Ireland's low corporate tax rate of 12.5% is a factor that attracts multinationals (EU average is 27%), especially US Tech companies such as IBM, Google, Apple and Facebook (now known as Meta). Introduction - Who am I?

Hi there, my name is Bridget Olohun and you’re reading the ‘Bridget’s Take On Digital Economy’ blog. This blog is going to dive into different aspects of the Digital Economy, but today’s post is just an introduction to myself and my experience with Information Systems. I’m in my final year of the Bachelor of Business (Honours) course and I’m specialising in Economics and Finance. I enjoy reading, going to the gym and going out for food. After I complete my degree, I would like to study a masters in the more technological side of Finance.    My first job was in RelateCare - a patient engagement solutions organisation that specialised in patient access and clinical communication solutions. When I started my position was Patient Scheduling Representative. I worked with a system called MyChart and this was a patient portal. MyChart was a system which allowed for synergy within the hospital. It allowed you to see all relevant information on a patient such as their medical history, ...
